ED FRINGE 2025 REVIEW: It’s Gonna Blow

Taking place over real time, roughly an hour before impending doom, the residents of Pompeii come together with an agenda in hand; Bin Goblins, an elderly couple who have lost each other, and a 300+ year old being intersect with each other, and at rather opportunistic moments, we too are thrown into the chaos, but then again, I didn’t expect any different from Fishing 4 Chips, who return to the fringe after their side splitting ‘Burning Down The Horse’ the previous two years.

As the meeting progresses, rumours spiral of a near impending threat to the city, and soon these character’s intertwine and interact with each other. Company members Sean Wareing and Freddie Walker, the only two returning members of the company, provide the meat of the script with hysteria and characters who push themselves to the limit; Walker’s Bin Sleuth man is a particular highlight.

New to the company this year, Yasmine Meadan and Elinor Solly both make huge waves in cementing themselves in the foundation of what the company stand for, equally bouncing off from the live audience, and shapeshifting with ease from the personas they morph into.

It’s Gonna Blow has a lot of ground to cover in its initial set up, with a slow up to initial we get the exposition, but when the crux of the arc settles, the pace ramps up, until we reach the climax of the piece, and the final minute of the show has the rug from under us pulled with force, and will sure give you a guaranteed laugh and deserved applause for this cunningly immersive theatre troupe.
