CABARET REVIEW: La Clique ★★★★

La Clique
Live in Leicester Square, London
Friday 8th November 2019 - Saturday 4th January 2020

To celebrate 10 years since La Clique first originated in London, opening at Hippodrome Casino and winning an Olivier Award that same year for Best Entertainment, this all burlesque, eye-watering, and mesmerising production is back, having taken a couple of years off to take the vibrant and saucy evening spectacular to the heart of Edinburgh, with a festive twist in the form of ‘La Clique Noël’. This is also our second time with La Clique, having seen their Edinburgh festive spin in December 2017, and though hard to believe, 2019’s evening of entertainment has excelled itself on an already established format.

Taking the helm of the MC for the evening is the ever-so glorious and mischievous Bernie Dieter, who certainly knows how to put a spell on the audience and we are fully in the palm of her hand with her devilish smile and ways of seduction, right up to the point where she has four muscled men clambering over her to lift her from the audience and back to the stage at a moment which she enters the ring of unknowing volunteers. The Beautiful thing about La Clique are the acts, and the way you can transport yourself into a world of no shame, as our jaws are dropped to the floor and constantly baffled by the sheer amount of talent that walks onto the stage to captive it’s audience.

On this particular evening, we are treated to the likes of the fire-breather, stunning, and New York native Heather Holliday, who plays and engulfs the inferno so naturally, so effortlessly, with no sense of fear. Jamie Swan does just as you would imagine, soaring above our heads with his chiseled body, suspended by ropes in an areal display of deviance, or getting us all soaked with his bath orientated display. Florian Brooks will leave you wanting more, even after his two appearances, as he juggling with and balances wine glasses onto tray, in what seems like an act of impossible nature, but again so natural that it clearly feels like second nature. Then lastly there is David Perira, the surprise act of the night with the foreseen probability of nudity, as he comes alive on stage with just a towel around his waist, and for one audience member in particular, it will be a night to remember in more ways than one…

Accompanying the evening is the La Clique Palace Orchestra, with Kelly Wolfgramm at the forefront providing her husky and nefarious vocals, that blend beautiful between the acts, and a special duet to MC Bernie Dieter will leave your heart pounding, with Dieter once again gracing the stage for the finale, in a moment which will have you throwing all your cares away and delving straight into the interaction around the Spiegeltent.

Overall, La Clique will be an evening’s entertainment that will likely be people’s highlight of the year; Whether on your own or in a group, you will find yourself beaming with delight and shaking your head in amazement, as you gaze upon the world’s top talent in an evening you’ll not likely to forget in a long time.
