VAULT FESTIVAL REVIEW: Wigs Snatched, Perceptions Destroyed ★★★

Wigs Snatched, Perceptions Destroyed
The Crypt, Vault Festival
Tuesday 25th February - Sunday 1st March 2020

At the time of posting, Erinn Dhesi boasts over 5.4k followers on her Instagram page 10mmballpointpen, a channel that allows us to post unique illustrated thoughts and opinions, as well as emotions through memes, and is clearly quite successful in making a living from her followers. An alumni of The Soho Writers Lab, Erinn is embarking on a brand new show which'll delves into preconceptions of British Asians, the life of a bisexual role model, and the world of celesbians (Celebrity Lesbians).

Erinn struts onto the stage in a suit jumper, and sunglasses, and instantly we feel this wall that she has put up towards her public; this show is a premiere at the vault festival, and as a result suffers from first night nerves, with stumbling of words, missed slides from her multi-technical PowerPoint companion, and awkward glances up to the tech box when tracks do not seem to come in at the right moments, but in true fashion Erinn ploughs on whilst mainly sat on a stool through the performance.

Guiding us through what could be said about our own name, we do find ourselves warming to Erinn, who clearly had a lot of familiar faces in the audiences to cheer her on. We gradually feel like we are getting to know the real Erinn in the suit and behind the growing social media platform, a woman who is confident in her thoughts and doesn't care about taking the mick out of online influencers, including herself, who even goes as far to say that as soon as the show is over she'll pop into a miniskirt and try to act straight, though she's far from afraid of her sexuality. We also look into the mind and creativity of her channel, a segment in which she asks for single word suggestions for on the spot poetry, though this comes off flat as there is no ambience to support, so we sit in silence as she scribbles down on the page.

Overall, Wigs Snatched Perceptions Destroyed is a decent performance in which will please anyone who follows Erinn's channel, and tackles some really open opinions and heartfelt statements at its climax, but may also leave you a little empty inside of needing more substance of mutual ground instead of feeling like you've been sat in a lecture for the past hour.
